Texas Lawyer magazine named Munck Wilson Mandala’s managing partner William A. Munck a Texas Trailblazer.  Texas Trailblazers is a special supplement developed by Texas Lawyer to recognize professionals who have moved the needle in the legal industry.  Munck and the other honorees are featured in this month’s Texas Lawyer. As a trailblazer, Munck was the first in his family to attend college and combined his computer science, electrical engineering, and mathematic skills with a law degree.  He was recruited heavily by Silicon Valley firms in the 90s but chose Texas to start his legal career.  Munck saw the potential that North Texas provided in high tech and built a law firm around technology-focused clients.

Munck tells Texas Lawyer that when he started at MWM in the late 90s, he wanted to represent high tech companies and provide legal services to them that were scripted to what they needed, including IP, corporate, labor and employment, and litigation.  This approach has paid off as MWM has grown from five lawyers in the late 90s to one of the largest high-tech practices in the southwestern United States with more than 40 registered patent attorneys and over 900 years of combined technical and IP law experience.  Today, MWM has a total of 70 attorneys in Dallas, Austin and Los Angeles (and, soon, Miami).

Munck received his J.D. with honors from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University where he is listed among the law school’s distinguished alumni. He holds a B.S. in computer science, electrical engineering, and mathematics, and an M.S. in computer science with honors from Hofstra University.  Prior to beginning his legal career, Munck designed control software for use in industrial laboratories.
