Law Firm Munck Wilson Mandala has added notable trial attorney Jenny Martinez to its complex commercial litigation roster. Martinez was previously a named partner with Godwin Bowman & Martinez and worked on complex commercial litigation matters, including the Deepwater Horizon litigation, one of the largest environmental lawsuits in the history of the United States. She brings 20 years of high stakes litigation experience and an impressive record of trial wins to MWM. Martinez will be a senior partner in the firm’s complex litigation department, which was recently named the Litigation Department of the Year finalist by Texas Lawyer.
“Jenny is a poised leader and an excellent lawyer. Her experience blends well with the complex commercial litigation cases we already handle,” said Jamil Alibhai, chairman of the firm’s complex litigation department. “In a competitive legal market, it is a coup to add someone like Jenny to our team. Her experience and leadership adds to the strong group of over twenty litigation partners and associates at Munck Wilson Mandala.”
Martinez represented Halliburton in connection with the civil litigation and investigation of British Petroleum’s Macondo well (Deepwater Horizon) blowout in the Gulf of Mexico, the largest environmental lawsuit in the history of the United States. Her legal work on this case spanned over three years in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, where she was a key member of the defense team. Martinez is known for taking on significant business disputes involving banking, real estate, employment, insurance, and contracts.
“I am excited Jenny has joined our team,” said William A. Munck, MWM’s managing partner. “We are one of the most recognized litigation teams in Texas, representing clients in patent infringement, trade secret, employment, technology, securities, construction, and oil and gas disputes. Adding Jenny makes our team that much stronger.”
Frequently honored for her legal and business skills, Martinez has been named a Texas Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters for multiple years, a Best Lawyer in Dallas by D Magazine multiple times and one of the Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America.
“I am looking forward to going to trial with Jenny,” said Michael McCabe, trial lawyer and co-chair of the firm’s employment and labor team. “Our clients will be impressed by Jenny’s varied experiences and innovative perspectives. She represents a positive addition as we continue taking on high stakes litigation. Our younger attorneys will also benefit from her extensive legal experience and client relationship skills.”
Martinez is a founding fellow of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers Foundation, and she is admitted to practice in the State Courts of Texas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, and the Dallas Bar Association.
Martinez received her J.D. cum laude from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law where she was a chief counsel at the SMU Legal Clinic, a research assistant to professor Ellen Smith Pryor, and treasurer of the SMU Women in Law organization.
“I have known the Munck Wilson team for a number of years, and I recently participated in the S.H.E. Summit the firm sponsored,” said Martinez. “When Munck Wilson sets out to accomplish something, it happens. The firm has an impressive record of winning tough litigation cases. I am excited to be a part of this firm’s future and to have them be a part of mine.”
