Anton N. Handal has over 40 years of first-chair litigation experience in Federal, State, and Administrative Tribunals and has been recognized by Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America, in 2023, 2024, 2025 and as a Law Firm Visionary by the LA Times. 

Notable clients include Volvo Car Corporation, Illumina Inc., and members of the Saudi Royal Family. Mr. Handal also has an active offshore practice that includes advising and representing international companies on a variety of issues that range from doing business in the U.S. to defending them in U.S. Courts.  He has significant business and legal contacts in the Middle East, Asia and China and has proven to be a valuable resource to U.S. companies looking to do business abroad. 

Mr. Handal has been lead counsel in over 170 patent litigation matters, has argued cases in the United States Federal Circuit Court of Appeal, the Patent Trial and Appeals Board, Federal Appeals Courts, District Court, and State Courts.  He also successfully tried cases in the International Trade Commission and handled 17 PTAB IPRs, taking three to a favorable Final Determination. As a relentless adversary Mr. Handal focuses on complex business disputes, Patent Infringements, breaches of fiduciary duty, partnership break-ups, professional liability, product liability, trademark infringement, Anti-Trust, Trade Secrets, and Lanham Act violations.

Mr. Handal has been a featured speaker at webinars and conferences on various topics including: “Modern Trends in IP Litigation,” “From Decision to Practice” and “Building a Right Platform: Key Legal Issues of the U.S. Beauty Industry.”   He has been a certified CLE lecturer in California and Florida on patent litigation topics; is a regular author and contributor on litigation issues; and is credited with several precedent-setting court decisions.

  • Carroll Shelby v. Halicki. Case No. 820-cv-01344 MCS (DFMx) Central District of California. Trade dress, Trademark, breach of contract. High value dispute over the Shelby GT500CR vehicle and its alleged impersonation of the “Eleanor” car character from the movie Gone in 60 Seconds
  • Certain DVD Players and Recorders and Certain Products Containing Same, U.S. International Trade Commission, Investigation No. 337-TA-603, obtained favorable settlement for multiple respondents in Section 337 Investigation involving patented DVD player and DVD recorder technology
  • eDigital Corporation v. Apple, Inc., et al., U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, representing plaintiff patent holder in more than 20 patent infringement lawsuits against smartphone, tablet, and camera manufacturers and retailers in effort to enforce client’s flash memory-related patents
  • Patent Harbor, LLC v. Audiovox Corporation, et al., U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Case No. 6:10-cv-361-LED-JDL, Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, Docket No. 13- 1341, representing defendant and appellee in patent infringement litigation involving technology for generating and displaying DVD content menus
  • Guardian Media Technologies, Ltd. v. Acer America Corporation, et al., U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Case No. 6:10-cv-597-LED, representing three defendants in patent infringement litigation related to parental control technology for DVD players and TVs
  • Collins, et al. v. Western Digital Technologies, Inc., et al., U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Case No. 2:09-cv-219-DF, obtained favorable settlement for defendant in patent infringement litigation involving diamond like carbon coating for computer hard disc drives
  • Multimedia Patent Trust v. Directv, Inc., et al. U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, Case No. 3:09-cv-278-JAH-CAB, obtained favorable settlement for defendant in patent infringement litigation involving MPEG-2 encoding and decoding technologies
  • Lindsey v. Conteh – Represented Plaintiff minority shareholders in shareholder derivative litigation alleging breach of fiduciary duty and violations of the Corporations Code relating to an international telecommunications business leading to a Judgment for Plaintiffs of more than $93,000,000, based on the value of misappropriated corporate property
  • RF Elati v. Aikin et al. Colorado District Court litigation recovering a $8,800,000 judgment for the firm’s client in a cannabis-related business dispute
  • Represented Respondent electronics manufacturing company in U.S. Customs and Border Protection Seizure cases concerning trademark validity. Filed successful Petition for Relief from Forfeiture resulting in dismissal of all cases and return of client property
  • Represented a world leading German manufacturer in re: Certain Automated Media Library Devices, U.S. International Trade Commission, Investigation No. 337-TA-746. Mr. Handal represented five respondents in a Section 337 investigation involving automated data storage devices. Resulting in a complete victory after trial and appeal for the firm’s client
